Hi,
maybe somebody can help me with a little problem.
I recently started using Wordpress, so this are my first steps.
I installed a new wordpress on my webspace. If I'm trying to access the backend (www.example.com/wp-admin) I'm getting the "Page not found" error.
If I'm using the adresse plus filename (www.example.com/wp-admin/index.php) it works.
In a former installation it was working fine.
Is it a configuration error?
Best regards,
Stig

it's a brand new installation. I didn't configure it.
The root works fine, backend is my problem and it's confusing.

1) Did you first configure the "wp-config-sample.php" file and rename it to "wp-config.php" before uploading?
If yes, then ...
2) After uploading, did you first go to [url]/wp-admin/install.php for the final setup?

yes, I did the install.
... and serveral updates..

Also, does www.example . com load .. or does that also have to be www.example . com/index.php?
Permalink Reply by Stig Pfau on December 10, 2010 at 11:00am I'm using a commercial webhost - hostmonster.com.
www_example_com is loading www_example_com/wp-admin not.
This is most likely a server configuration issue. Servers are configured to load the directory index file when no filename is specified in a URL. There are a bunch of possibilities and you can even configure which order they load in. It sounds like your server is not set up to recognize index.php as one of those files. A simple way to confirm is to upload a blank file called index.html in to your /wp-admin folder and try to access the site again. If the blank page loads when you try without the file name, then you need your hosting company to fix it.

sure. But in this case, the Server would not load the frontend.
It's only the wordpress backend. Other scripts like Magento, Joomla or someting.
But let me double check the server config.
